From Glory to Glory: The Journey of Faithful Service

In the journey of faith, the path from "glory to glory" is often paved with acts of humble service and unwavering faith. The story of Stephen, as recounted in Acts 6:2-5, is a testament to this truth. Chosen to serve tables, Stephen embraced his role with a heart full of faith, setting the stage for God to elevate him to a ministry of great wonders and miracles among the people (Acts 6:8).

Stephen's story is a powerful reminder that when we serve faithfully in any capacity, we align ourselves with God's plan for our lives. It is in this alignment that we find our actions blessed and our ministries expanded. God does not call the equipped; He equips the called. In Stephen's case, his faithfulness in the seemingly mundane task of serving tables led to a divine promotion.

However, with every new level of service comes new challenges. Stephen's increased ministry did not go unnoticed. It stirred the hearts of those resistant to change, leading to increased opposition. The religious leaders, feeling threatened by the power of his message, incited a mob to silence him through the most final of means: stoning.

As the stones were lifted, a moment of divine revelation occurred. Before the first stone struck, Stephen gazed into the heavens and saw a vision of Jesus standing at the right hand of God (Acts 7:51-60). In this critical moment, Stephen was not alone. The presence of Jesus was a clear indication that in our trials and tribulations, we are never abandoned.

The narrative of Stephen serves as an inspiration to all who face opposition in their walk of faith. It reminds us that with Jesus on board our boat, we have a companion who fully identifies with our struggles. He knows our needs, carries our burdens, and feels our fatigue. In our deepest sorrows and fiercest persecutions, Jesus stands with us, offering the grace we need to endure and even to forgive those who stand against us.

Stephen's final act was one of supreme grace—praying for his persecutors as he was ushered into the highest glory. His life and martyrdom illustrate that our earthly positions are transient, but our heavenly position is eternal. In the face of opposition, we can take comfort in knowing that our Savior understands and rises to the occasion, granting us the strength to move from glory to glory.

Let us, therefore, take courage from Stephen's example. Let us serve with faith, stand with power, and soar on the wings of grace, knowing that our ultimate promotion lies in the eternal glory that awaits us beyond this life.
